“You see, I’m a guy of simple tastes: I enjoy dynamite, and gunpowder, and GASOLINE!”
August 13, 2008
” Wanna know how I got these scars? My father was a drinker. And a fiend. And one night he goes off crazier than usual. Mommy gets the kitchen knife to defend herself. He doesn’t like that. Not. One. Bit. So, me watching, he takes the knife to her, laughing while he does it. Turns to me and he says “Why so serious?” Comes at me with the knife,”Why so serious?” He sticks the blade in my mouth. “Lets put a smile on that face!” And….. Why so serious?”
“You look nervous. Is it the scars? You want to know how I got them? Come here. Hey, look at me. So I had a wife, beautiful; like you. Who tells me, I worry too much. Who tells me, I ought to smile more. Who gambles, and gets in deep with sharks. One day they carve her face. We have no money for surgeries. She can’t take it! I just want to see her smile again. I just want her to know that I don’t care about the scars. So I stick a razor in my mouth and do this…”
Winter, when our lips dry out, and the corners crack, we lick and then smear cream all over them, and then lick again, and again, as the lips burn they turn red like The Jokers’. His lips are perpetually dry. Scarred to smile, even when serious, he licks the skin off, leaving behind a bloody edge.
The Joker has no agenda, no plan. He’s not after money, or power; he has no purpose, no rules. He merely seeks to create chaos. Nothing to lose, nothing to gain, he enjoys the ride, “Come on, I want you to do it, I want you to do it. Come on, hit me. Hit me!” says The Joker to a screaming Batman’s Batpod.
Gambol: [to The Joker] Give me one reason why I shouldn’t have my boy here rip your head off.
The Joker: How about a magic trick?
[pulls out a pencil and sticks it upright into the table]
The Joker: I’m gonna make this pencil… disappear.
[Gambol’s thug walks over to kill The Joker, who slams his face into the pencil and kills him]
The Joker: Ta-daa! It’s… gone!
“Do you wanna know why I use a knife? Guns are too quick. You can’t savor all the… little… emotions. In… you see, in their last moments, people show you who they really are. So in a way, I know your friends better than you ever did. Would you like to know which of them were cowards?“
Homicidal maniac, mad, sociopath, psychopath who ‘just wants to watch the world burn’…and then I fell in love with The Joker, and the late Heath Ledger.

There was no one else who could have played the part the way that Heath did. The acting was phenomenal in so many ways.

You’re wrong about the joker not being after anything… he was intending to take over the mob all along… by cutting off their funding. He succeeded where the police couldn’t. And he couldn’t have done that without Batman.
Marone realized what the Joker was up to… and decided not to go to the docks to meet him along with the Russian mobster. He knew the joker had Lao… so he knew the joker would have all the money. And after that… why would the joker have to give back half of it at that point??? The russian mobster was the naive one.
And also remember the 1989 Batman movie? The Joker took over the mob then, too. It’s his “thing.”

I know this is silly, but I only recently watched “The Dark Knight” for the first time ever (I know – crazy right!?) and OMG I can’t believe I waited this long to watch it |:
Heath Ledger was an AMAZING Joker and I can’t seem to stop drawing Heath as him.
I hope I don’t have a “thing” for him – that’d just be, in retrospect, kinda creepy.
And if I had to be psychotic like anyone, it’d be the Joker – Heath Ledger style!
R.I.P Heath ❤

He was a great actor. My only problem with this entire ordeal is that we have been deprived by the Warner Brothers’ lot, possibly at the behest of Christoper Nolan, to see how he actually achieved this amazing feat. He took the Joker and essentially remade the character and for whatever reason (most likely the ones listed above) we will never see any behind the scenes footage and it will be a constant mystery as to his life on the set, how they decided to give him a Glasgow Smile, his comments on how he decided to play the Joker, etc., etc. It is worth noting that there were numerous cameras following each character around, and I don’t believe Ledger was some how left out of that.
It bothers me that his greatest piece of art is shrouded in fucking mystery. The extras on the DVD/BD steer so far away from this that it seems clear that Nolan or WB execs wanted to keep a sense of mystery to his performance which is sad. I somewhat trust Nolan’s judgment in the matter, but he doesn’t create the extras or ‘makings of’ or say what deleted scenes will be allowed. Honestly in the end, by making Heath’s process such a mystery they will make more money off him and people will always look towards some ‘directors cut’ in the next year. Sad.

I now learnt that he thought up the make-up and style of joker completely by himself. Heith Ledger really was a sought after genius, he deserves to be appraised for a bright career he could of maintained. You are one twisted man, but a good joker at that.

I have seen The Dark Knight 4 times, Lords Of Dogtown 2 times, and 10 Things I Hate About You 2 times. I loved them all many times. Here’s my thought. In The Dark Knight in my opinion he played the best Joker ever. I can’t get over it. I keep watching it over and over again and I can’t stop watching it. He plays Skip Engblom in Lords Of Dogtown so great in my mind I also love watching him in that movie. Lastly 10 things I Hate About You he played the boy (forgot his name) so well. You can hear and see him as himself a little and he did a wonderful job. I love him in all his movies.
